Commem 50c 1926 US Sesquicentennial VF Silver Coin WDEE-05

$50.00

Here is the 1926 Sesquicentennial of American Independence Commemorative half dollar. Mintage of this coin is 141,120. We grade this coin Very Fine. Moderate wear is found on all details, with some peripheral spots around the obverse seen. Some darker color found around the Liberty Bell on reverse. The 150th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence was the occasion for an international fair held in Philadelphia in 1926. To help raise funds for financing the fair, special issues of silver half dollars and gold quarter eagles were authorized by Congress. This is the first time that a portrait of a president appeared on a coin struck during his own lifetime. Presidents Calvin Coolidge and George Washington are depicted on the obverse of this half dollar coin. The reverse bears an accurate model of the Liberty Bell. John R. Sinnock, chief engraver of the United States Mint, modeled the sesquicentennial coins from designs by John Frederick Lewis. This design was also later used on the Franklin half dollar. This coin has lightly-worn details of the high-relief designs. An excellent coin for the collector of Early Commemorative coins. A very pleasing and popular commemorative coin with silver and collector value. Thanks for looking. We are grateful. WDEE-05
